Editorial Policy

1. How tools are selected

We focus on software that uses AI to meaningfully improve a real workflow — writing, research, design, automation, project management, and adjacent areas. A tool must be publicly accessible on a free plan, paid trial, or published subscription. We do not list tools that require a private-beta invite or undisclosed enterprise pricing to evaluate.

We discover tools through our own research, reader submissions via the Submit a Tool page, and direct outreach from developers. All tools go through the same evaluation regardless of how they arrived. Submitting a tool does not guarantee a listing or a positive verdict.

Tools that use “AI” purely as a marketing label without a discernible capability improvement over non-AI alternatives are excluded from the directory.

2. Editorial status labels

Every listed tool carries one of three editorial verdicts. These verdicts reflect our honest assessment at the time of the last review and are updated when a significant product change warrants it.

• Core StackA foundational tool we would put in almost any practitioner’s workflow without hesitation. Exceptional quality, reliability, and value for the category.
• RecommendedA solid tool that does what it claims and is worth paying for or using in production. Not the only choice in its category, but a confident one.
• Worth TestingA promising or niche tool that deserves a look — particularly for specific use cases — but that we stop short of recommending unconditionally. May be early-stage, limited in scope, or not yet verified at scale.

3. Affiliate disclosure

Some tool listings include affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and make a qualifying purchase, EVOLUTIVE X may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate arrangements are disclosed on individual listings where they apply.

Affiliate relationships have no effect on editorial verdicts, placement order within the directory, or the content of written reviews. A tool with an affiliate link receives the same evaluation process as one without.

4. Paid placement policy

EVOLUTIVE X does not accept payment for inclusion in the Tools directory, for favourable editorial ratings, or for placement ahead of organically ranked results. If sponsored or promoted listings are ever introduced, they will be:

• Visually distinct and clearly labelled Sponsored
• Separated from organic editorial results in all directory views
• Disclosed on this page before any such change takes effect

This policy applies equally to tools built by or affiliated with EVOLUTIVE X. Any first-party tool listed in the directory will be disclosed as such on the listing itself and evaluated against the same criteria as third-party tools.

5. Corrections and updates

AI tools change quickly. Each listing shows a “Last reviewed” date so you can judge currency for yourself. We re-review listed tools when a major product change — new pricing tier, capability shift, acquisition, shutdown, or significant user-reported issue — affects the published verdict.

If you spot outdated information, a factual error, or a broken link on a listing, please submit a correction request. We read every message and prioritise factual corrections. Material corrections are noted on the affected listing.

6. AI-assisted editorial process

We use AI tools internally as part of our research, drafting, and editorial workflow — which is consistent with the practitioner audience we write for. Where AI assistance materially shaped the content of a review or article, this is noted in the piece.

All published editorial verdicts — including tool ratings, written assessments, and category rankings — are reviewed and approved by a human editor before publication. AI-generated content is a starting point, not the final word.
