Overview
Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant. It exists as a free web and Windows chat tool, and as a paid layer woven into Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
Inside those apps it can draft documents, summarise email threads and meetings, and help build or explain spreadsheet formulas. For teams standardised on Microsoft 365, that in-app help is the main reason to use it.
What Copilot can do depends heavily on where you use it and which licence you hold; capabilities differ noticeably between the free chat and the paid 365 integration. It is worth testing on your own documents before committing a team.
